A study was carried out by the EAC in collaboration with partner states, governments and MSMEs representatives aimed at promoting MSMEs development. This study was undertaken with technical assistance from the consultants, Ernst & Young with the objective of developing alternative strategies for facilitating promotion of the SME sector, especially with a view to raising the survival and growth rate of the enterprises.
This study recommended strategies to improve the business environment under which MSMEs are operating, cutting down the regulatory requirements and turnaround time spent in starting a business and in continued compliance. Here, strategies include simplifying, streamlining and decentralizing regulatory processes through enacting, amending and repealing laws and regulations inhibitive to MSMEs growth.
