The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) in partnership with United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) launched the Subcontracting and Partnership Exchange (SPX) PROGRAM for Uganda geared towards helping our local Industries meet buyer needs.

The aim of SPX is to link domestic Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in developing countries to the supply chains of large domestic and international companies with the aim of developing the local Small and Medium Enterprises capacity to gain profitable business opportunities and meet buyer needs.

The SPX approach builds on global best practice and the SPX UGANDA centre will assist local SME’s to develop their technical and managerial and productivity capabilities in order to become competitive suppliers and sub-contractors to major buyers.

Through SPX Uganda, UIA seeks to improve SME’s access to international and domestic markets - a bottleneck which has hampered the success of domestic enterprises for a very long time.

Presently the SPX center covers pilot sectors namely:

• Metal working and fabrication, Machining processes, foundry ,
• Manufacturing of plastics (Injection molding, blow molding, extrusion etc.)
• Industrial services

Facilities offered by SPX in a nutshell

• Providing Business Information
• Match making
• Studying and finding solutions to Problems effecting Sub-Contracting
• Assisting in arranging agreements between main contractors  and subcontractors
• Assistance to upgrade Technology, Managerial Capacity, and obtaining certification (such as) -ISO 9000, ISO 14000
• Arranging trade fairs, buyer seller meetings, reverse fairs
• Organizing seminars and workshops
