Access over 2.5 million people at Expo Dubai 2020

Between October 2021 and March 2022, 190 companies will participate in the Dubai 2020 expo, representing enormous opportunities for Uganda to market itself not only to the countries represented at the expo, but to the rest of the world.

So why Dubai 2020?

Expos like this happen once every five years and provide a unique opportunity to interact with the international community in one location at the same time.

Dubai is easily accessible and well-served by airlines at reasonable prices. This is in contrast to many previous Expos, which were not as accessible. In 2025, the next World Expo will be held in Osaka, Japan.

Dubai is an international trade, investment, and tourism hub. The possibilities are limitless.

Uganda has good bilateral relations with the UAE, which are beneficial to the promotion and development of trade/business and investment.

Opportunities to participate

Uganda will have a two-story pavilion, with the ground floor dedicated to exhibition and the upper floor dedicated to meetings and conferencing. In addition to the pavilion, Uganda will hold a National Day on October 3rd, which will be the country’s promotional day, to which H.E. the President has been invited. The morning session will feature official government-to-government events, followed by an afternoon session that will include a trade and investment forum, B2B, B2G, and G2G meetings, as well as cultural events. All of these provide opportunities for business partners to showcase their products and services in order to expand their market reach/share.

There is an opportunity for women-owned businesses to participate in the Dubai Expo through SheTrades, a project under Opportunity Bank. SheTrades aims to empower women entrepreneurs with financial services, managerial capacity and market linkages.

UIA is also assembling evidence-based and well-packaged investment profiles/bankable investment projects in order to attract the interest of foreign investment

Support to Private Sector to Participate

The National Task Force was formed under the Chairmanship of Uganda Export Promotion Board (UEPB) to arrange and coordinate the participation of Uganda in Dubai 2020.

UIA is collaborating with UEPB to assist with visa acquisition and accreditation process necessary to access the Expo site and secure meeting and conferencing venues necessary for B2B events and meetings in collaboration with Dubai chamber of Commerce and other partners. Private sector players are advised to indicate their interest to use the kiosk in the WMI Oasis Park early to enable planning and coordinated shipping.
