Nile Breweries Scoops the Investor of the Year award 2015

The Awards recognized outstanding local businesses, Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) as well as diplomatic missions that have furthered Uganda’s trade. 16 businesses competed and these include Nile Breweries, Dao Marble, Quantum foods, Steel and Tube Industries, Fol logistics, Aloesha organics, Taf Assured, Gurunanak oil mills, Bidco, Riham industries Rene Industries, NUCAFE, Miracle motors, Devenish Nutrition, Hariss International, ASM minerals and Sesaco.

Eng. Frank Sebbowa, the Executive Director UIA in his remarks at the same event said Uganda’s manufacturing industry possesses a lot of potential especially in agro products.

“During our 3-day investors’ exhibition, we realized that 50% of the products showcased were from Northern Uganda mostly agro produce. The thrust needs to shift focus to Northern Uganda and tap into this potential,” he said.

He mentioned that UIA is finalizing a strategic plan that will see at least one million jobs created for Ugandans by 2021.

Nile Breweries emerged as the Overall Winner for uplifting the livelihoods of about 20,000 sorghum and maize farmers in Mbarara and creating jobs for at least 50,000 people. The beverage company has invested USD 97M in its new state of the art plant and remits Ug shs 73Bn in taxes annually.

Woman Entrepreneur of the Year – Ms. Okot Florence (Yellow Star Produce)

Best Diplomatic Mission – Uganda High Commission in Nairobi, Kenya

Best Foreign Diplomatic Mission – Indian High Commission in Uganda.
