The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA), the primary Investment Promotion Agency of the Government of Uganda, was tasked, under National Development Plan II (2015/16 – 2019/20), to develop 27 (twenty seven) Industrial Parks and four (4) Regional Science, Technology and Industrial Parks (STIPs).
One of the objectives of developing production zones is to provide well-designed serviced sites for value addition and industrial development.
The industrial parks and STIPS, spread throughout Uganda, would also create jobs and ease accessibility of land for investments, introduce new research, technologies and skills development, and ultimately boost Uganda’s economic growth, exports and revenues, translating into economic development.
The Kampala Industrial and Business Park (popularly known as Namanve, 11 kilometers east of Kampala) is UIA’s flagship industrial park.
The 2,200-acre facility has 52 fully operational industries, directly employing 16,000 Ugandans. At least 111 projects have commenced construction creating an additional 18,000 indirect, short-term, contract and technical jobs.
While 126 companies are still in the pre-start stages (surveying, processing deed plans and titles, environmental impact assessment certificates, architectural designs, geotechnical and hydrological studies).
A massive infrastructure development project is also underway; it will significantly improve infrastructure like roads, power and water supply, sewerage and drainage systems, broadband connectivity, security systems, etc.).
That the face of Namanve is changing significantly, for the BETTER, is not in doubt!
