Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) and Botswana will sign a memorandum of understanding aimed at promoting trade and investment between the two countries.
The agreement to sign a memorandum was reached upon by the UIA Acting Director General Lawrence Byensi and the High Commissioner of the Republic of Botswana to Kenya designated to Uganda, H.E Mr. Gobopang Duke Lefhokom at a meeting held at the UIA head office on Lumumba Avenue.
The meeting was also attended by the Honorary Consul of Botswana in Uganda, Maria Odido and Mr. Tirahalo Sekao third Councellor from the Botswana High Commission.
“The visit was to establish collaboration areas to increase trade and investment with Uganda focusing on the priority sectors; Agribusiness, ICT, , Tourism and Mineral benefaction,” said Mr. Byensi.
He added that they also agreed on bench-marking visits from Uganda’s members of the private sector interested in animal health and development to engage with companies in Botswana in the beef sector and to share experience and technical knowledge, as well as Tourism to promote Pan African Tourism among the two nations.
Mr, Byensi also briefed the delegation about the history of UIA and its role which include promoting, facilitating and advocate for investors in order to achieve a conducive investment climate.
“Our President Yoweri Museveni also recently assented to the new Investment Code and we also operate a One Stop Centre for investors to Ease business registration and issuance of licenses among others,: he said.
H.E G. Duke Lefhoko and the Honorary Consul Mr. Maria Odido hailed UIA for promoting investment in Uganda that is contributing to the country’s industrial growth.
