UIA wins Outstanding Sector e-Service Award

The Uganda Investment Authority’s e-Biz platform (www.ebiz.go.ug) has won the Outstanding Sector e-Service Award (Tourism and Trade category) at the first ever e-Government Awards organised by National Information Technology Authority of Uganda (NITA-U).

UIA (One Stop Centre for Investors) went head to head with Ministry of Trade, Industry and Co-operatives’ Non-Tariff Barrier Reporting System (the only two competitors in this category) but the former triumphed, owing to the amazing success of the e-Biz platform.

UIA’s e-Biz platform (www.ebiz.go.ug) enables virtual/remote access to primary investment services like investment licensing, business registration, tax registration, trade licensing, visa and work permit processing, land title verification, etc.

The awards ceremony was held Thursday evening at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala, presided over by the Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ruhakana Ruguda. Present were the State Minister of Finance (Privatisation and Investment), Evelyne Anite, and the Minister of Information Communication Technology and National Guidance, Frank Tumwebaze.

Our line Minister, Evelyne Anite, was on hand to receive the coveted prize, accompanied by the Director of the One Stop Centre, Mr. Joseph Kiggundu, and UIA officials Mr. Bright Onapito and Mr. Augustine Katale.

In his speech, Premier Rugunda said the people of Uganda are now beginning to see and appreciate what ICT does, adding that more should be done to leverage ICT to improve government’s efficiency and effectiveness in delivering public goods and services.

Minister Anite said there are concerted efforts to keep improving the investment and business environment in order to make Uganda the best place for investors and business people. She said UIA will keep innovating in order to better the investment services offered at the One Stop Centre.

UIA’s One Stop Centre for Investors, which runs the www.ebiz.go.ug portal, is a phenomenon. In FY 2017/18 it offered 11,200 unique investment services. This ending FY 2018/19 the services it offered have hit the 50,000 mark, a significant increase by any measure!
