WEST NILE LEADERSHIP WELCOMES BIO FUEL PROJECT

The district leadership of Koboko district has welcomed a multi-billion dollar project to be implemented by Bionas Group in the West Nile region.  This project is set to create employment, alleviate poverty and contribute to Uganda’s economic growth through revenue generation.

Bionas Group of Investors is a consortium of 21 Malaysian and 5 Chinese firms that are set to manufacture bio fuels from jatropha plants.  Hon. Evelyn Anite, the State Minister for Investment and Privatization along with the Kokoko local leadership offered them a 78 hectare piece of land in Koboko District to start the implementation of this project. This gesture was greatly appreciated by the investor and they committed to planting 32 million trees on the 2 blocks in Koboko and to also construct a high end training centre for workers. This investment is expected to transform Uganda into the East African Hub for bio fuel production.

Uganda Investment Authority is committed to facilitating the Bionas Group through the implementation of this project.
