President Museveni receives Uganda’s accolade for best investment destination in East Africa

President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has receive Uganda’s accolade (golden award) for being the best investment destination in East Africa.

State Minister for Privatisation and Investment, Hon. Evelyn Anite, handed the trophy to the President at State House, Entebbe.

On May 9, Uganda won the golden award at the Annual Investment Meeting in Abu Dhabi, UAE, in which more than 170 countries participated. Rwanda was runner-up. The Uganda Investment Authority (UIA) was also recognised as the best investment promotion agency in the region.

This was witnessed by the Ambassador of United Arab Emirates to Uganda, Hassan Al Shamsi, as well members of the Board and Management of UIA.

Minister Anite informed the President that the recognition was due to his relentless efforts in encouraging continuity of trade and manufacturing amidst the turbulent time of the Covid pandemic.

“We presented your guidance on how to attract investments and one of the companies we presented for the competition is Modern Tiles factory in Njeru that you commissioned”, said Anite.

Modern Tiles is the biggest producer of tiles in eastern and central Africa. It produces 42,000 square metres of tiles daily, employs 900 Ugandans directly, sources and adds value to locally sources raw materials and contributes significantly to reduced import bill on tiles. It has also invested heavily in research and development, as well as technology transfer.

Uganda has vast investment opportunities in sectors like agriculture, agro-processing, manufacturing, mining, tourism, infrastructure development, ICT, etc.

Uganda Investment Authority is the go-to agency for investment matters in Uganda.
